ISRAEL'S BREACH Must Not End Ceasefire

Israel's Breach must not end the Lebanese War's ceasefire. UN Resolution 1701 can and will endure, but must be supplemented with rapid governmental response of a non-martial nature.

Only a renewed martial aggression can sustained a short term by martial reaction -- in limited restrictive or life-saving form.

If Israel continues military action against Lebanon inclusive of Hezbollah- -- it has broken the trust which commits all not to a shaggy Israeli policing but to an armistice.

Israel & Lebanon must complain aloud about each's transgressions through the press and in government circles to create a non-martial process and annotate the issues. That Lebanon may be receiving smuggled arms --not instantly in use -- is Israel's dilemma --leave the resolution to diplomatic statecraft -- and cite the location and problem. Lebanon's arms will return to UN 1559 like analysis with integration of Hezbollah's militia -- Israel may not, and must not be permitted to unilaterally disarm her. A full embargo for the area would include Israel. Hezbollah, by CNN, adn other news sources have agreed to militia disbanding --yielding amred forces to Lebanese govern forces --that is UN 1701. It is not PLO style Israeli disarmament madly of any trasngressor.
Lebanese shall bear arms as their law and constitution permit. (An international right)

Nations participating in UN 1701's enforcement by latest news sources include France with military forces up to 5000 on the ground; the pre-exisitng UNIFIL force of 2000; and a German offer of defense to supplement Lebanon's weak position with her Navy and air defenses; Italy has offerd 5000 men on the ground; and Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei will send brigades

Israel cannot opt for war or military reponse any more. As this is written, NBC News [8-19-06 18:30 edt edition NBC-NEWS] outlined the critical Eastern Mediterranean environmental damage caused by Israel's 'mad' [my editorialism] airstrikes and ground shelling -- oil spills: " ... as large as the Alaska Valdez spill... ".
Conventional war in tight quarters modernly -- cannot continue today. Only a new government in Israel can guarantee this -- if Likud I & II revert to blind brute thuggism.

POTUS Wrong on Lebanon-Israeli War Outcome

President Bush is just wrong, or mis-nformed on the outcome of the Lbanese-Israeli War.
Despite the war's turn and the nationalistic response and material non-Hezbollah, punitive reprisal-like targeting elsewherein Lebanon, Mr. Bush continues to regard Hebollah as a state within a state and a traditional terrorist force.
Mr. Bush's information, if from Israel, disregards many material factors:

- Israel had no good intelligence on Hezbollah capacities and missilery sites -- except that their rockets existed, and could be used.
- POTUS cannot lambaste Hezbollah, and ignore Lebanon's earlier non-civil war start at 'taming' and incorporating Hezbollah into whole Lebanon -- per UN Resolution 1559, his government endorsed that resolution (all alien military & alien para-military forces out).
- Hezbollah is not the expatriate PLO.
- Hezbollah must be transformed, as it was into a peace seeking political and economic player within Lebanon's constitutional polity. That was occurring before the war.
- Lebanon & hezbolah need help establishing a crisis works within Lebanon to deal with hotspur israel; and to integrate Lebanon's military components and integrate them under one national controlling command.
-Israel, cannot apply a reckoning of inequality against other peoples and nations any longer. One Lebanese equals one Israeli. Israel must restrict herself or face sanctions.

Finally, if international growth and justice are to appear, Israel's specific damges to Lebanon, including mis-targeting, must be documented. Supply that report to the public, and the press, and let Israel's once rational voters do the rest.

Hezbollah must be regarded as a past labelled terror group in transition to peaceful political participant. It held off and bled Israel -- its low cost armamnents and guerillas meeting that objective .. but neither country lost nor won -- the two peoples - let down by international institutions and processes tasted the cost and scourge of war again in the 21st Century.

Joe Lieberman's Victory

Senator Lieberman, Democrat of Connecticut can claim a starting victory in his re-election campaign. Yes, he 'lost' the Primary election of his party; but consider:

- Senator Lieberman closed on his challenger from as much as 14% behind to 4% in the final primary election tally.
- Connecticut's Primary was a closed primary. Mr. Lieberman and Mr. Lamont were contesting pre-registered Democratic Party Voters; Mr. Lieberman has always attracted the center of voters , like Senator Diane Feinstein of California does, and the late Senator Henry 'Scoop' Jackson did.
- Connecticut's center, and non-committed voters, like other states, especially northeastern, are strong non-partisan Independents -- registered to vote as non-partisan or 'undeclared'.
- Per CBS News 'Face the Nation' [8-13-06] in an interview with 'victor' Ned Lamont, CBS' Scott Pelley noted that if the election were held today (referencing a July's end Connecticut poll), Mr. Lieberman would win a three-way race and Mr. Lamont would finish third.
- Mr. Ned Lamont the 'victor' and challenger to Senator Lieberman in the Connecticut Democratic Primary Election, spent $4 million of his own money [general news reports] - he's a millionaire businessman running on an anti-Iraqi War platform. That's more than $3 per vote for him.
- Every Senator wishing re-election, unless some state finds a constitutional way for a term limitation, deserves a general election consideration if he seeks another term.
- Barring a fluke, Senator Lieberman, with his good re-considering him Democratic voters [46%+ of Connecticut's active Democratic Party registered voters], and with good 'independent or party-undeclared' voters frequently of the center (the place of political resolve); and Senator Lieberman voting Republicans, and other voters should bring him a return to the Senate - with good credit to him and Connecticut's reputation.
- DSOC, the Democratic Senate Organizing Committee, should just acquiesce and ask voters to vote for a Democrat and endorse that alone [some reports have that group endorsing Lamont alone]. Joe Lieberman, Senator and Democrat from Connecticut, if re-elected, will sit as, and with, the Democratic Party in the US Senate. Take that Senator Harry Reid, Bill Richardson et al. Other than gaining a fixed vote on one issue - the Senate and Connecticut regain a Democrat; a smart man with important seniority and influence, and a vote of conscience.
- To repeat my earlier jest, Mr. Ned Lamont, with his good showing, and personal money, might consider quitting the Senate race, and go straight to New Hampshire and file early candidacy papers for the US Presidential Primary -- he'd do just as well!
