Today's -03-020-04 Springfield Republican carries a reprinted Boston Globe piece about Senator John Kerry's genealogy from Czechoslovakia and Austria by an Austrian genealogist. By the article which the genealogist has offered to the public record with attribution to his service - link here -www.ihff.at -English & German link -- Mr Kerry is mittel-European German Jewish on his father's side. His grandfather changed his patronym from Kohn to Kerry. Sadly - Mr. Kerry's nearest relations to his grandfather in Czechoslovakia and Austria died at the hands of the Nazi's in Thierenstadt or other death camps. A further biographical piece about Mr Kerry's life follows from the Boston Globe references his prior marriage to Julia Thorne of Long Island, NY before his remarriage to Theresa Heinz (the Belgian born widow of the late Senator John Heinz). Mr Kerry's mother's heritage including her escape from the Holocaust as a young French Jewish woman has been previously well publicized. Mrs Kerry - the Senator's mother died last year. Hence John Kerry - identifying with his surname - is Irish in the empathy or identity of his surname. This blogger is reminded of the Irish-American Al Gore - who was teased in British genealogy for the ancestral connections of his 'de la Gore' and 'Peagrome' roots - which are Anglo-French. Save those who more darkly 'tan' in massachusetts - it is frequently an easy welcome political road to join - just be Irish !
