WMP 11 DVD CODEC Links
Placing a secondary computer into operation with WINDOWS XP operating system; which included Windows Media Player 11, required a hunt for the programs (called codec[s]) to play DVD’s on the player. This was not a happy starting activity. As most Windows users knowing the project & product, one seeks the CODEC package which supplements the DVD playing function on the WMP-11. [This application of WMP-11 & Windows XP were entirely legitimate and validated.]
A usual download of the Codec for WMP series did not work, so this blogger pursued the issue with some searching and success- the latter shared here. Windows usually asks their clientele(Windows XP is no longer wholly served with updates) to upgrade to Windows 7 (some machines won’t take it, and the XP is perfectly good).
The links which follow are for a standard combined Media-Pack of DVD codec (codes), and two from a CNET list – both for Windows XP & Windows 7. The idea on the 7 was that the Windows files for another OS might cure the DVD non-function; especially when combined with Windows XP. The three were downloaded and safely opened in the Windows XP computer, then run and the PC restarted. The combined systems work. Try any of the three links, and if one does not work, load and run the three in combination –they will cross check each (some override & offset likely) and work the DVD function correctly with full Windows smooth operation for all the expected media files.
