Alex Cross -- capsule review

Move over Lawrence Sanders fans –Alex Cross from  James Patterson is here.  In this newly released film, Tyler Perry plays Police Detective criminoligist Dr. Cross in Detroit, hunting a sadistic killer with a penchant for victim torture and high tech drugs.  Set in modern Detroit, Michigan, the city looks good as its renaissance theme joins the murder mystery whirl.  Germans, French, Chinese, investors and entrepreneurs figure as target for the assassin.  Matthew Fox plays “Picasso”, the killer with a twist which converts the manhunt for a twisted psycho, to a desperate heat to beat a hired pro to his next VIP targets.  Unfamiliar with James Patterson’s novels, this is a good addition to film crime police detective genre,  and has flavors of Lawrence Sanders “Sins” series (First Deadly Sin etc) which starred Frank Sinatra in several.  Moral and thorough, once in a while irregular, Tyler Perry becomes  the detective as agent with God on his mind.  His church scenes help. The fill grabs, looks good, and has great action.  Jean Reno co stars in a supporting role and adds his flavor to the show.  Kudos and notice to Rachel Nichols & Edward Burns in supporting roles as Perry’s partners; Cicely Tyson appears as Perry's (Dr. Cross') mother, Carmen Ejogo as Perryy's wife - Mrs. Cross and good notice to Stephanie Jacobsen as the Chinese money,  & Jessalyn Wanlim.   ****4.5/5   Go, and sit back & hold on.

Rape & Incest

Old joke of mine: The man running for office says there will be no abortion except in cases of rape or incest. Yet his district's abortion rate is the same or higher than other areas. How does he account for that in his district? "Well ... between you and me" says the candidate "We've had a lot of rape &incest."
