Connecticut Law Will OK Same Sex Civil Unions

Connecticut Law Will OK Same Sex Civil Unions

As of today Connecticut's Governor Rell was expected to sign a same sex civil union law [ie marriage equivalent] into law; assuming the House reconciles a Senate amendment. Rverting to the optional equivalent civil union safeguard without diminishing marriage (ie two equal statuses) Connecticut would be the first state to so legislate without a court mandamus to do so. Given the time and litigation involved many proponents of civil rights equality are likely to warmly accept the compromise which basically creates a 'meld' or 'sameage' license; the parties of the same sex would have a marriage equivalent with a 'civil union' license or a statutory recognition of equivalent rights as holders of marriage licenses.
